Job Summary

Ingersoll Rand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Designer at our Industrial Technologies and Services Americas headquarters in Quincy, IL.  This position is primarily responsible for CAD design of transport products, assemblies and components, complicated layout/detail drawings, bills of material, and/or technical machine composition assignments.The Designer is a critical part of the sustaining engineering and new product development process within the IR organization and plays an integral role in creating accurate 3D models and 2D drawings for machining or fabrication. The Designer works closely with product engineers to create product designs that meet the accuracy requirements to ensure product functionality as well as conforming to industry drafting standards. The Designer also interfaces frequently with the Manufacturing Engineering team to gain alignment between dimensional drawings and machining and production capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models of parts and assemblies in collaboration with product engineers
  • Create 2D drawings with adequate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to meet product functionality requirements
  • Utilize IR standardized PLM tools and follow all standard processes and work instructions
  • Create product exploded views to support existing and new operating manual creation and updates
  • Work with engineers to troubleshoot and solve product machining or assembly problems
  • Help specify and apply proper assembly practices in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering
  • Work safely in a sometimes loud and hot environment around rotating industrial machinery

Position Qualifications

  • 2-5 years 3D-CAD design experience, preferably with complex mechanical components along with sheet-metal design and fabrication using PTC Creo, Solidworks, or Inventor (or similar)
  • Associates degree in CAD design or Manufacturing engineering with CAD experience preferred
  • Familiarity of drafting standards, symbols, nomenclature, engineering terms, bills of material, proper use of material and engineering reference books and catalogs
  • Experience preparing detailed supporting documents such as cost estimates and project time schedules
  • Ability to work independently or as a team with engineering and manufacturing
  • Strong communications skills required to be effective with customers and company contacts
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.
  • Work environment includes inside and outside of an office environment.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively through oral and written presentation. Can convey detailed instructions to others.
  • Able to operate a computer and other handheld technology devices
  • Minimal travel required (< 10%)
